Pi Day, the annual celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi), is always a highly anticipated event at UA Little Rock. While many enjoy the festivities with pie-throwing contests and food, the Emerging Analytics Center (EAC) takes a new fun approach to the holiday by integrating technology and creativity.
At the heart of the celebration, the EAC continues its tradition of blending art, design, and technology to enhance the Pi Day experience. In 2023, a group of students at the EAC created a Snapchat Augmented Reality (AR) filter to bring a digital twist to the festivities. Together we designed a uniquely crafted Pi-themed AR hat. This interactive filter allows students and faculty to celebrate Pi Day in a fun and engaging way — without the mess! The filter remains a part of the EAC’s evergrowing SnapChat filter collection and a recurring fun photo op for Pi Day each year. Pi Day is all about numbers, but it’s also about innovation and discovery.
In addition to the AR experience, UA Little Rock’s Tau Beta Pi chapter is hosting its third annual Pi Day celebration on March 14th, this Friday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the EIT Building Lobby. The event will feature student organizations, a Pi(e) Walk, and nerdy demonstrations, ensuring a mix of fun, education, and community engagement. Of course, no Pi Day would be complete without some pie-themed festivities!
To experience the Pi-themed filter, students and faculty can visit the official Pi Day page or just scan the snap code in the picture we have here. Scan and join the digital celebration.
So grab a slice, open SnapChat, and immerse yourself in Pi.
