Dr. Aryabrata Basu, Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and a core researcher at the Emerging Analytics Center (EAC), attended the 2025 Oak Ridge Enhanced Technology & Training Center (ORETTC) XR Symposium at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Dr. Basu joined a select group of XR experts, government stakeholders, and national security professionals to explore how immersive technologies are shaping the future of training, collaboration, and operational readiness.
Held on the historic grounds of Y-12, a facility that played a pivotal role in the Manhattan Project, the symposium provided a powerful juxtaposition of legacy and innovation. Dr. Basu noted the symbolic resonance of discussing next-generation virtual, augmented, and mixed-reality applications in a location once dedicated to world-defining breakthroughs in nuclear science and engineering.
Dr. Basu contributed to dialogues centered on XR’s potential to transform situational awareness, simulation fidelity, and mission-critical decision making. Representing EAC’s cutting-edge work in immersive visualization, digital twins, and secure virtual environments, he brought academic and applied research perspectives to discussions with federal agencies and XR industry leaders. His participation underscored EAC’s commitment to leveraging XR for real-world impact, from virtual prototyping and skill development to immersive analytics for national security, healthcare, and education.
While Y-12 continues its evolution from atomic history to technological frontier, Dr. Basu’s presence highlighted how research institutions like the EAC are charting the course for next-generation immersive technologies.
